How to fix a DVD-drive

Every computer must have a DVD-drive. If you don’t know what it is, look at your computer. It is a place where you put your CD and DVD disk. They are very useful, but they can last only one year. In some cases, they can last longer, but after one year they cannot work efficiently as before. This means you wouldn’t be able to burn a CD or DVD and you can use only new disks.

The first step is to remove the DVD-drive from a computer. It is held by two small screws. Undo them and detach cables that connect it with a motherboard. Some computers have just one or 2 cables. When you are done, undo 4-8 screws (depending on your DVD-drive) and remove a protective metal part. At the front of it, you will see a small hole. Put a needle inside in order to open a DVD-drive. Look for some traces of dirt and dust. When you find them, clean them. In some cases, you can see that a wire is damaged. Use a tape to isolate it.

The most important part of a DVD-drive is its laser. It is used to read and write data onto a disk. It is located on the part where you put your disk. It is small round part of the glass. Over time, it gets dirty (you cannot see that dirt). Use a piece of cloth and alcohol, in order to clean it. When you are done, put all back together and return it to a computer. Try to burn a disk, you will see that it works.
